(Paul Kannowski, Nov 18, 2001) [email protected] "Like some of LDS information, that one (Stephen Chapman died 1814 Windham CT) is unreliable. Stephen Chapman was one of the "New England Planters" who migrated to Nova Scotia in 1760-61 to replace the French Acadians who were kicked out to Louisiana (see Huling, R. G. The Rhode Island Imigration to Nova Scotia; Narrangansett Historical Register, April 1889; Stephen is listed on p. 38). He died in Newport, Nova Scotia on 26 March 1770 and was buried on 29 March. I have his will which was probated on 22 May 1770 and the inventory of his estate done on 3 November 1770. I also have a record of his wife's diary which states on 26 March 1770 "My husband departed in a sweet sleep about 10 o'clock in ye morn".
