(Per Dawn Hence) Clarendon VT land sale recordings show:
-Bk 5 p 245 T. Harrington to Wm Chapman and Abner Williams(Ailee's
brother) April 1791
-Bk 6 p 128 Abner Williams to Wm Chapman 1797 (apparently Abner sold his
half to Wm C. and then Abner left the area)
-Bk 6 p 152 W. Harrington to Wm C. 1790 mentions Wm is "living"
-Bk 7 p 73 Wm C. to G. Congdon 2 April 1803. This is Wm C's last
recorded deed, so assume he left Clarendon then. Paul Kannowksi (Nathaniel
Chapman) then found William C in Pittsford VT 1810 census
The 1800 Clarendon VT census, shows two more daughters, which
were possibly children not recorded to Stephen Arnold, Clarendon Town
Clerk. Not surprising, as the earlier five children (ending with Hiram C
in 1795) were recorded all at one time on one page by Stephen Arnold. I
have a copy of the hand written entry page emailed to me from Howard
Boswell (Mary Chapman, m Sattu Albee) in WA state.
Interesting, that Stephen Arnold was the Clarendon town clerk and the
"Arnold" family along with Roger "Williams" were two of the thirteen
families who purchased the property which became the state of RI....and
150 years later their descendants turn up in Clarendon.
Also, the Capt Abraham Salisbury, who bought the first piece of
Clarendon recorded property from Joseph Williams (Ailee's father) was
married to Eselpha Westcott, dau of Ezekiel Westcott and Mary Dyer. The
"Dyer's" were also one of the thirteen families of the Roger Williams RI
group.
(My husband, Larry Owen is descended from the original RI Mary Dyer who arrived in
America 1634 and was hung in the Boston Common 1659 for being a
Quaker--I love that my husband's Dyer family knew my Williams
family--400 years back :)
